Signal Through the Noise

The strongest objection to all of this is also the correct one, and it is fatal to most of the field. Given enough freedom in what you count, a pattern is guaranteed. You can almost always find a number if you are allowed to keep changing the rules until you do. Any serious version of this work has to begin by admitting that, because it is true.

What noise looks like

Noise is an open-ended hunt. Change the counting rule, change the language, change the unit, change the starting point, and keep going until something divides cleanly. Each new freedom you grant yourself is another degree of freedom, and degrees of freedom manufacture coincidence. A search with enough knobs will always land on something, and the something means nothing, because the search would have found a something no matter what the text actually was.

What signal would require

Signal is the opposite shape. A single claim, stated in advance, on the standard text, with every choice disclosed and ranked, and the full method published so that anyone can run it or break it. One closed claim that is either true or false is a fundamentally different object than an open-ended search for whatever might turn up. The first can be wrong. The second cannot even be wrong, which is exactly the problem with it.

The test is attack, not admiration

A real result invites people to try to destroy it. This project hands you the code, the exact verse list, and the ranking of every assumption, and asks you to falsify it. Most numerical claims about scripture do the reverse: they hide the method and ask for wonder. That difference is the whole thing. A claim you are invited to break, and which survives, is worth something. A claim you are only invited to admire is worth nothing, however large the number.

Humility

And then the harder discipline, the one the arithmetic cannot give you. A number divisible by nineteen is not a sermon. The structure, if it is real, is not the meaning, and this work makes no claim about what it means. It documents that the pattern is there and lets the reader carry it wherever honest reflection takes them, toward faith or away from it. The researcher claims nothing for himself in it. The work is offered in service to God, and the proof, such as it is, belongs to anyone willing to sit down and count.

Signal is what is left standing after you have done everything in your power to knock it down. So do that. Don't believe me. Count.
